Male or female? what do you guys think?

Actually, females do have beards and will flare just like a male. The female's beard is just a bit smaller :)

Shorter ventrals, the dorsal and overall shape you seem to have a wild colored female.

Pardon the mistype. They do have a "beard" but it's more like a little bump and isn't as prominent. A male beard is hard to mistake though.

Oh definitely.. you can see the male's when he isn't flaring - the female, not so much. :) I was wondering Rosso lol.. I know you know your fish!

Thanks for all the info, guys. I I am having a hard time differentiating the gender. No visible egg spot and there is 2 more on my tank that I can see an egg spot.

Be wary of it. In the last 6 months I have had TWO male stowaways that somehow made its way into my sorority tank. Both also looked nearly identical to your pictured betta too. When they're small they are sold (erroneously of course) as "females" but then after a few more months their male aggression comes out.

On one occasiona after I raised the temp of the tank above 80F the male started blowing a bubble nest and courting one of the females in the tank! I definitely put an end to that with the fishnet immediately...

Per your PM....Its hard to tell by the pics....but, IMO the first one-the body shape, anal fin and long ventral fins make me think male. The second one-I am not sure-but the body shape makes me think female and the third one-best guess is female based on body shape, anal fin and short ventral fins. Do either of the last 2 have an ovipositer-while having one isn't always a sure way to sex them-since some males can have one-especially really young males. A good pic with all their fins erect or flaring would help.
Have you seen any behaviors that indicate male/female in them

Well I haven't been able to see the egg spot in any of them. The last 2 I am more inclined to think are females but not 100%sure, but the first one seems to to be getting really aggressive and always flaring but I haven't seem him/her bitting the other fish. Is really hard to tell. I'll try and post pictures of them flaring.
