A question about scales

I purchased my betta from petco about 2 weeks ago. He is missing scales on his head. He was like this when I bought him, is there a way to help them grow back? I don't know why he is missing them nor how old he really is. I just want to make sure he is okay because he's so pretty.

He does not look like he is missing scales... If you mean the random strip of black under the coloration of his body, many bettas have it particularly metallics and dragonscales. To me it looks like he is a dragonscale.

Are you refering to the darker areas? That's his coloring IMO. They often times have that kind of patterned coloring rather than being solid. Sorry if I'm missing what you're refering to.

Yup! Normal as normal can be.. hard to tell exactly this far away whether he is full on dragonscale, if not then he may be part dragonscale.

Your boy is pretty :)

Hard to see.. but this is Quasimodo.. my weird little guy.. he's part dragon (mom dragon, dad not).. he won't look directly at me.. but you can sort of see the black line that goes along the top of the head to the back.

Haha I didn't know about this. I feel a lot better, I thought he was dying or something. His scales aren't in a nice pattern, it's more like a line but i'm glad he's okay. Thanks everyone :)

Heh, he looks like my Alexei, love those metallics. I've seen a lot of bettas with the darker line on their head, so I agree just a marking. Stunning boy!

O.O Alexei just flared for the first time since I got him. Lucky thread!!! I think he's a HM now, yay!
