It may be that you do not have the correct wattage of heater for your aquarium. It could also have something to do with the placement of the aquarium. I really need more info to help you out.

I personally recommend that aquariums be between 78 - 82 degrees, with down to 76 being acceptable. I would ask for other opinions but these are my personal preferences on heating.

It's a 2 gallon tank.

I have had this betta for over 2 years without a heater. I didn't know they needed one. The water was room temp. Now that found this forum and did some research I now realize I could have harmed the little guy. So I bought a heater. It's only a 10w.

I'm no expert but a 10w heater should be able to heat a 2 gal aquarium. My guess is that the temp surrounding the aquarium is making it difficult for the heater to do its job. Preset heaters are supposed to raise the water temperature by about 4 degrees above what it is naturally. A 25w adjustable heater might be preferable.

As I mentioned, I'm no expert on heaters. I do know that preset heaters usually only raise the water temperature by about 4 degrees and that an adjustable heater would be preferable.

What is good 25w adjustable heater? Any suggestions. Also what is a good adjustable heater for a 10 gallon and 20 gallon tank?

I'd go with eheim Jager heaters for a 10G or a 20G. Good luck!

Jager or Marineland Vistherm are good 25w heaters. I have the Visitherm in mine right now.
