First off, I hope that this is not against the rules as I'm not trying to promote a site, just gain signatures in the hopes of taking harmful decorations by Penn Plax off the shelves since we all care about our beloved fishes.
This is the link to the signature. At least 100 signatures are needed but by all means, we could use as many as we can possibly get! The background story of my own personal issue and reason for starting this petition is included in the link. Penn Plax will receive an e-mail each time someone signs, so please feel free to leave them a note along with your signature and share the link on other sites or with your facebook friends. Penn Plax did not respond to my concern when I contacted them personally, but there's a lot more strength in numbers! Hopefully, we can make aquariums safer for fish everywhere.
Thank you! I just got an email back from them, today.
What wWe are always happy to hear from fellow fish lovers as yourself, and we appreciate your concern over our products and their safety with your pet Betta. Please be assured that all of our products must meet strict testing guidelines and are tested in our research lab before they ever hit the market. There are so many factors that can lead to health issues for fish such as water quality, feeding, temps, filtration, etc…as we are sure you are fully aware of.
We appreciate the fact that you obviously care about your Betta’s health and that you even took the time to start an online petition to make a change. So many people mistreat their pets and we unfortunately hear of animal cruelty stories on a daily basis.
While we have tested this product extensively with no ill effects on our fish, we want you to know that we actually did make a change with our manufacturing plant recently. The SpongeBob resins will no longer include any metal of any type on a go forward basis.
Thank you again for your support and concern. It is people like you who really care about their pets that are part of the reason we are in this business.

They deny damage, which is an unsurprising response. HOWEVER, they're no longer making the ornament with metal. Hard to say how long it will take for the current stock to be finished but I consider this a success.
They did not send me any response until they got bombarded with emails from the petition.
I am going to put a strong magnet in my purse and check the decorations every time I walk in to a store from now, on. Hopefully I'll notice changes, soon.
Might I suggest that everyone else do the same if they are planning on purchasing decor.
I would love to see a RECALL on this decor. I cannot fathom how they can get away with marketing this crud as "safe for aquariums" when it is obviously not. Any concerned fish owner should be made aware of this and should take a magnet with them to the fish store, IMO. If I had known before, DaBaDee and I could have avoided the whole ordeal.
