Two Questions...Heater & Filter.

I've seen different suggestions on reducing the harsh current produced by the filter, and I have questions. I bought a complete 10 gallon setup with everything but the fish, water, plants and gravel included. I have pantyhose attached to the spillway, and it sort of helps. With the water bottle technique, I'm worried about sharp plastic edges in the tank. Is that a problem?
Second issue is the heater. We live in NC, and we don't keep the house very warm at all. It's usually in the 60's inside. The tank heater is adjustable, but doesn't have temperatures on the dial, just a + and - and a central, in the middle setting. I have no idea where to set it to keep the water at the right temp. Any suggestions? And, while I'm at it, Azure loves bloodworms. How much and how often should he have them? He's not impressed with his flakes or pellets.

Round the corners of the part of the plastic that is in the tank & you should be good. The middle mark on the heater is typically around 76F so start there, check the temp in 24 hrs to see if its what you want if not turn the dial a little towards the + to increase the temp or towards the - to lower it. You have a hang in tank thermometer right? Blood worms aren't meant to be their staple diet so you may want to try a different brand of pellet like New Life Spectrum. Feed blood worms only a couple times a week.
