Wondering if New Betta is a Special type?

Hi-

I'm new to the forum and I had a question about my new betta. I've kept Bettas for almost 20 years, but I never really got into the different colors and fin types. I've been know to buy the "ugliest" betta on self because I felt like he might not get a home since he wasn't colorful or I'd buy a sick fish and treat it to save it's life.

But two days ago, I saw this little guy and I've never seen a color pattern like it before and I just had to take him home. Is he a special type or was he just lucky to look like that? My camera doesn't give his color justice---the colors are more vivid than in the picture.

I believe he's considered a tri band betta. What did you name him?

I found him at our local Pet Supplies Plus. They just started to get in bettas with different price ranges which I've never seen them do before (bettas use to be a standard $3.49 in our area--this little guy was now $7.98).

He's a VT, but has a very interesting color. I'd be one to call him a purple mustard gas type butterfly.

I agree with what's above, cool find, pretty veiltail too. I love mustard gas and orchids which is why my newest male was a mustard gas.

A VT that is dragonscale (they are starting to pop up in VTs now), he looks like a tri-band, a bit messy, but can still be considered that.. he's pretty :)
Either way, he is a bit special as the dragonscaling hasn't been put to that many VTs yet hehe
Not mustard gas.. he has a tri band pattern with mostly white - nothing like mustard gas. Mustard tends to have only two colors and most of the fin should be of the "mustard" part.

Everyone seems to throw anything purple and yellow into mustard gas. I read a story sorry dont remember where about the breeder of line. Basically anything not from his line should be termed mustard gas type. Hope your guy enjoys his new home!

BEAUTIFUL dragonscale tricolor butterfly. i'm impressed, especially to see a VT with such beautiful scales, finnage and coloration.
