What would happen if you don't cut a runner?

I was looking at my pygmy chain sword runners and was wondering what would happen if I didn't cut the plantlets off.

Nothing cuts them off in nature, right?

I dont think anything would happen if you didnt cut them off. Maybe eventually they'd detach? They have their own root systems anyways so I dont see why you'd need to remove them, not like they'd be removing nutrients from a mother plant or anything.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe I'll just let mine be. That way, I'll have a definitive answer.

I just bought 2 sections of it for my tank, one is still connected, the other is in bits and pieces, just as an experiment to see which turns out better.
