Best filter for a 2.5 gallon tank

Hi there,

I have a 2.5 mini bow tank with a HM betta named Giupetto in it. He was sick with a white film which has now cleared up with my treatment of Maracide.

Today I face a new challenge. He got sucked up into my Tetra whisper filter today which he was in for at least 5 hours. He seems ok now. No fin loss and he is swimming around.

I have a prefilter sponge which Im going to put on the intake tonight. However, Im wondering what a better filter would be? I don't want this to happen again. I have other bettas which are in tanks without filters and would like to eventually have them in tanks with filters.

Any suggestions would be great.

For a 2.5g you really don't need a filter. I would only put a filter on a 5g or more IMO.

Apparently sponge filters are great for small tanks, if you must have a filter. I can't personally vouch for how good they are, as I haven't tried them yet, but there are many on here who can.

I've tried sponge filters, they aren't bad and you could get some small ones off of ebay for pretty cheap (3-4 bucks)... but for a 2.5 gal, personally, I would use a filter. Just make sure you do frequent water changes. Good luck! =]

you can always make your own! they're relatively easy to make and gets the job done :p

If you feel like you need a filter, go with a sponge.
I actually like the filter that comes with mini-bows, I use them in all my mini-bows with and without pre-filter sponge and they work great

Ok guys, I know I don't need a filter but would like one. I find the tetra whisper one to have too much of a current. I also have the elite mini underwater filter and that too has too much of a current. How do I stop the out put of water to be so strong?

My mini bow is old, so I do not have the filter that came with anymore.

Anywhere suggestions would be great. Thanks!

I'd go on a search for prefilter sponge. If you shove it by the intake, the output will slow down too
