Best days to buy bettas

Is it bad or good to bring home a betta as soon as the store gets it in? And why?

From what I have been told you should go like 2 days after they get in a new shipment.
Reasons:: all the ones that would die from the trip will be dead by then. ones that might be sick should be showing signs of illness. And all of their new stock should be out on the floor by then.

BUT I usually go the day after a shipment just because I'm worried someone else will get to the interesting looking ones before I do.

Ooh okay that does all make sense. Thank you!

Do you think there is a big risk in buying the day after?

Hmm, good question.
I dont really have a problem with it myself. As long as you are going in and looking for activity and health first and color or quality second, you shouldnt have an issue with it getting sick or dying.

But some people prefer to give it another day to play it safe.

i love going the day they get them, though. you get to check them out before others come in and snatch up the neat ones....

but, then, i've the rare and elusive good pet store...

Or, you can do what I did, go in when they arrive, pick yours out and ask if you can buy the betta but have the store hold him for you until you get back from your 5 day vacation (It was Christmas)! That way if it dies, or gets ill, it happens at the store and is their fault/responsibility

I like to go the day after...but then, I rarely buy anything (and last time I did, it was a guy who'd been there a week and needed rescuing. SO glad I did he's a stunning red copper HM now <3 )
