Choked on food?

I've had my female crowntail, Firework, for about two months. She was perfectly happy and healthy. She lived in a 1.5 gal that was heated to 78F.

Today after water changes I was feeding all my little fish babies. I dropped in the pellet for firework and she swam up to eat it, just like she always does. But when she ate the pellet she began spazzing, flipping around and nearly jumped out. Then she just stopped freaking out, remained still and began to float. My little baby was deamed dead soon after :(

I don't know what happened, it seems as if she choked! I don't understand how this happened, considering she has eaten this same pellet food for months. Has this happened to anyone else before? I am tears, Swim in peace firework!

That spazzing you are describing was actually probably her organs shutting down... just bad timing making it look like it had to do with feeding.

I do water changes every 3 days (50%) and weekly (100%).Today I did a 100%, I removed the fish using the scoop method, using the cup I purchased them in. I dump the water out, rinse out/vacuum the gravel, run and scrub all the decor under hot water. Then using a sponge I scrub the walls of the tank. When I'm done I add everything back into the tank, fill it up with water and add water conditioner. I float my fish in the tank for about 45 mins, and every 10 I add a little bit of the new water into the cup to accumulate her.

That's good acclimation and water change routine. That sponge you use only for your tank right? Never touched the kitchen sink?

Never been anywhere near the kitchen, I buy a new pack every week just for water changes.

You said the water temp in her tank was 78F, right? What was the temp of the new water (after you did the water change)?

The thermometer read 76F but after I placed the heater back in it rose to 78F once again. (while firework was still in her cup)
