New betta is terrified of the light

I got my newest boy about 4 or 5 days ago, and I finally realized why he's so shy. Everytime I turn the aquarium light on, he freaks out and hides in the back corner of the tank (where his cave ornament is). He will not come out, even for food.

He looks healthy otherwise, so I have no idea what's causing this fear...

I really don't know what to do about it, either. Any suggestions?

What kind of a tank/light hood do you have? I have to be careful with my light so as not to startle my little fishy. I have one of the mini bow tanks (5 gallon) and the light makes a really loud noise when you click it on, and scares him if I do it to quickly! Maybe your situation is similar.

RedCassette, Do you think you can post a pick of your tank?
And like kevinbacon said, you probably have a too bright of a light for him.

Betta fish are naturally dark water fish, in the wild the water is tainted with tannins from fallen leaves and debris. They don't like light, I don't think any fish do. If he's freaking out too much maybe a dim LED light can work. Otherwise you don't have to have a light, just watch for diatoms. (brown algae)

I have a hood with LEDs in it. It's a divided ten gallon tank, and the betta on the other side (who gets the same amount of light) isn't bothered whatsoever by it, so I don't think it's too bright.

I can probably get a picture later today if that's necessary. Camera's not here at the moment.

My betta loves his light on, when ever its off he lays in a plant and goes to sleep, but when he wants it on he skims the front of his tank until i turn it on, and when its on, he stops skimming and starts to swim and weave through his plants

Mine was scared of of the loud light switch sound of the 2.5g BT that I used to have. I used to open the lid, and then click on/off the light.

He does not get scared with my new Fluval LED light switch since it is much softer.
I think it is the light and sound that scares the betta.
