Cycling a 2.5

WELL...now my 10 gallon is fully cycled and I'm bored and want to cycle another tank but the only one i have left is a 2.5 gallon for Hollow...so here it comes...I want to cycle my 2.5...it's a challenge but GAH if I could fully plant it and cycle it...how cool would that be?

What am I going to need other than a filter and lots of filter media? What is the best way to cycle a smaller tank?

I cycled my 3.5.. All I really did was keep the tank really warm and dark. The BB love warm, dark places. Keep the temp. 80F-82F and shut off the lights. I think adding plants will reduce the ammonia, just a theory. A sponge filter is best due to the surface area for the BB. Hallyx is the master of cycling so I would contact him for more information.

Lebron has the basics right there. Use a large filter sponge to provide lots of volume for your bacteria colony; also lots of aeration. A sponge filter can give you this.

A heavily planted tank takes a long time to cycle. But then a heavily planted tank doesn't really need nitrifying bacteria to eat ammonia.
