How many MAX females can I put into a 10 G?
How many MAX females can I put into a 20 G?

Thanks to all, I know they need it to be well planted and with plenty of hiding spots

Maximum females you can put in a 10G is around 5-6. In a 20G, I guess 10. I know 20 is 10 x 2 but the girls should have a lot of room to swim and "frolick".

I think I had 10 females for a while in a heavily planted and cycled 10 gallon tank and they did fine. Better in fact than when I removed a couple of them to put in another tank.

However, 5-6 is generally a good number to stick with. When you overstock, there is less room for error in regards to things like disease and water quality.

So, 8 girls would be good for a 10 G? I think that's a fair number between 6-10.

As long as your tank is fully cycled with a filter that is capable of dealing with the bioload of 8 females and you have enough cover/hiding places for everyone then I would expect it to be alright.

There's never any guarantees with these fish, but you can stack the odds a little more in your favour if you do things right from the start.

If you are wanting to do 8, I'd add a bunch of live plants just to help with the bioload.

What plants do you suggest? I'm already got my bid in for some Asian Watermoss & Amazon Frog Bits.

Are you going to get high light plants, or low light?
Low - java moss, java fern, anubias, amazon swords, hornwort, moneywort, duckweed, etc. etc.
High - crypts, cambodia, bacopa, dwarf hairgrass, etc. etc.
^ You'll need C02 and at least 6500k lighting for high light plants.
