Sea monkey snacks

*Just as a disclaimer, no I do not have sea monkeys, nor am I intending to feed them to my bettas any time soon.*

I was looking up live foods for bettas and saw brine shrimp as a fairly popular one. As a child I knew others who owned and enjoyed sea monkeys and at some point learned they were just brine shrimp. Putting two and two together I wondered if anyone had decided popular pet = popular snack and experimented. Oh the joys of google/controversy.
So, I'm putting it to the members of this forum, some of which I'm sure raise their own brine shrimp snacks. Anyone ever experimented or known someone who did? Seems that there are passionate responses both for and against the practice.

Since this is the chat section comments on easily raised/fed live foods would also might also liven up the chat. Mainly I see them in the breeding section, but I'm sure owners of the humble pet betta have often thought about raising their own treats.

A lot of people here feed brine shrimp to their Bettas, frozen or live. Bettas love live foods, and also love to hunt. I don't have live foods for my fish, but if I had the room, I would raise brine shrimp to feed to them. I know my female would love them, she loves to "hunt" for fallen food and that is one of the reasons she loves flakes so much because she usually has to chase it. I'm not so sure about my male though, he's extremely particular about his food, and doesn't like chasing it. If a pellet floats away from his immediate reach, he won't eat.

We've raised feeder "monkeys" before. The only real difference between sea monkeys and brine shrimp, is that the species of shrimp that we call sea monkeys was artificially created in a lab (hybridized).

We recently tried Fairy Shrimp, but the accident prone fiance didn't condition his water when he did a water change and killed off our population. >_>

Actually had sea monkeys as a kid but never really thought about what they were. And oh no skye I loved the way your fairy shrimp looked and was looking forward to hearing about your adventures with them :(

Poor fairy shrimp. How did you come across them? Did you order a culture online?

we bought them off of ebay. but http://www.arizonafairyshrimp.com/ sells them too.
