how long can a betta go without eating

bought a new betta a male half moon double tail on saturday afternoon. he ate only once and it was only a single betta pellet right after he got home and has avoided food since. he'll stare at it but swim away. i saw a positive sign this morning, he's made a bubble nest but im still worried since it's been 3 days and that he'll starve himself to death. im thinking about returning him by tomorrow if he doesnt start eating.

he's in a 2.5g tank with a heater, used seachem stability, and api stress coat and stress zyme, and nitrate remover (or was it nitrite, i forget) a soil/gravel bottom along with a rock with java moss on it.

your thoughts would be helpful

Bettas can go up to 3 weeks without eating and still live.

I would guess that he is still just getting use to his new home.

A healthy betta can go a few weeks without food - after two weeks you will start seeing the side effects such as lethargy, thinning, etc.

I bought a male VT last monday and he will only grab pellets and then spit them out. He did eat some frozen brine shrimp the other day. Sometimes you just have to try a wide range of things and figure out what they want to eat. He will eat when he is hungry enough..
