no, dragon scale is a scale type that can occur in any tail type. it's basically a betta with large, thick scales that have a contrasting iridescent layer. a pure dragon has slightly shiny white or silver scales, and there are many different variations in the green and blue spectrum, as well as some lavenders.
as a sidenote, metallics, while similar in appearance, are a different genetic property entirely (dragonscale is a splendens mutation, whereas metallics come from interbreeding splendens with imbellis or imbellis hybrids)
