Planted tank... still feels like it's missing something

So I redid one of my boys tanks. I'm not sure if he likes it yet. He's confused as heck. But I know he will benefit from it. Going to use a plain desk lamp with a 6500k CFL bulb. Planning 8-10 hours a day.

It's got a few anubis, a large bundle of crypts (a mini one, or so I hope it stays!), a banana plant that will not stay anchored without burying it, and a bundle of stems that I'm not sure exactly what. They look sorta like bacopa.

Any suggestions?

Longer, floating plants in the back, some smaller ground foliage (Like eatmice said) in the front and sides, some open area in the middle, a black background :)

sadly those are only available on occassion, and not very often around here. I was thinking a nice -small- piece of driftwood and some moss. I could toss in a few cherries for him to chase.

you really cant do much in such a small tank with such big plants. I do recommend putting that roman pillar on it's side or on a slant so it's not so centered and vertical.

Maybe you could try bunching the plants together so they're not all random like that. And I would put the column ornament off center to the left or right a bit.

It's a nice start though.

Yes a nice start live plants are the best thing you can do for your fish. I would add like a cave decoration on one side or something he can explore down at the bottom of his home. Just make sure any openings are big enough so he doesnt get stuck.

If it were me, I'd probably arrange the plants so they create a kind of sloping appearance rather than scattered about and add some rosette plants or grass, but that's just personal preference. I do agree with moving the columns off-center though. The driftwood and moss idea sounds great!

I wanted to bunch the stems, but they wouldn't stay burried for some reason. So I had to spread them out.

Might be going in on an aquamagic order. They have lots of mosses and other smaller plants I can try.
