Question Is This Scale Loss?

A few days ago I saw this white patch on my betta's body. The patch appeared over night. Upon closer inspection I couldn't really tell if it was scale loss or his color changed. As far as I know there isn't really any sharp edges on any decorations in my tank, and there's no too small openings he could've gotten stuck in. He stays in a cycled 5 gallon with fake plants and decorations if that helps. The patch is right below his dorsal fin.

I can't really tell from the pictures of there is scale loss or not, but scale loss will appear as white because their flesh is white underneath. My female likes to jump and will occasionally lose a scale or 2 from bumping into the lid during a feeding or trying to catch a water droplet, but never anything as large as what I think you are referring to. Does it look fuzzy at all? It seems odd that he would have lost that many scales in such a short period of time? Could it be a color change? Some Bettas change color or "marble" and get patches of different colors on their bodies.
It looks like the plants are silk, so he shouldn't have gotten caught on those. But never estimate the size of space that they can squish themselves into, my female jumped completely out of her tank through a hole less than a 1/2 inch big. They will try to fit into any size hole, completely unaware that they might not fit, until the get stuck.

I tried to get a close up but he refused to sit still and my camera wouldn't focus. The area is just a milky white color, no fuzz or anything. He also has some white on his head which has been there since I got him. I want to think it might be a color change, but the time in which it happened was so short I really just don't know.
