A few days ago I saw this white patch on my betta's body. The patch appeared over night. Upon closer inspection I couldn't really tell if it was scale loss or his color changed. As far as I know there isn't really any sharp edges on any decorations in my tank, and there's no too small openings he could've gotten stuck in. He stays in a cycled 5 gallon with fake plants and decorations if that helps. The patch is right below his dorsal fin.
