The big thing to watch out for is over feeding too much extra food left in the tank will cause the ammonia to build up a lot faster, you can use like a turkey baster to suck out un-eaten food and poop, but learning to not over feed will solve the un-eaten food problem, and you should have a fasting day for your fish where you do not feed him at all which is a good day to use the baster and get out the nasty stuff
