Lesson of the day- Don't be absent minded like me lol

I was mid deep cleanse and new fish setup- I wanted to keep my heater running while I was cleaning so I placed it in the small tank I have the new fish and new plant placed in temporarily (which has a 25w heater already in it)... Stupid me goes hey I need filter cartridges- so I run to Walmart. Came back to the small tank sitting at 92 degrees b.c of 75w of heater heating them. Gah- need to work on that not leaving in middle of things. Fish is fine and perky so far. No known damage. Slowly bringing temp back down

Wow that was a close call, lucky you got back when you did! I bough a couple of new bettas once and I put them in a temporary divided tank for the night anyhow the heater that I put in with then was faulty, the thermostat did not work and so the heater did not turn off when it reached the set temperature....... luckily it was a very cold night otherwise my poor boys would have been cooked!

When I was much younger and all of my extended family lived with us, I was the witness to cooked goldfish. Horrible, horrible thing for a 9 year old to go through, especially since one of my cousins and I thought it was our fault since we were in charge of feeding the fish. My uncle had a faulty tank heater, that if barely bumped, would shoot up a good 10-20 degrees. So, technically, it wasn't our fault, but one of us must have bumped it and the result was 3 cooked goldfish.
