The lovebirds

Since my fish were in a particularly photogenic mood today I got some photos of one of my favourite species, Betta brownorum. These guys are wild-caught and are from Borneo. Unfortunately, they still haven't spawned yet so I am trying every single trick I can think of to encourage them.


Most I have seen my male unclamp his fins since I have owned him


They follow each other around like this all the time


I don't think he actually consents to this

This is their tank. Bit bare at the moment but they don't mind too much.

Have you tried the cool water change trick? it seems to work with numerous other species of fish. lol

Haha yeah they are getting cool water changes. All my wild bettas do. Plus a diet completely based on live food. Just have to wait until they feel like doing it I suppose.

The male is the one with the big blue spot on both sides, while the female has the tiny blue spot on one side only.

Could spend all day watching these guys as they are very entertaining and always swimming about.

Wild betas are so much different. I never seen them like that before.
I wonder if the females still get breeding stripes.

Yeah they do. This is another of my wild species females with her breeding stripes on.



All my splendens have died/gotten sold so now I just have several different species of wild betta. Got sick of my splendens so it's wild bettas all the way now haha.

Thanks for the comments guys. These fish are absolutely stunning in person.

I put a film canister into their tank last night and the male has been in and out of it this morning. Crossing my fingers he is working on a nest and I get some fry finally. Although don't know where I am going to put them if I do haha.
