Question about potted plants

In specifics I have a Java Fern and an Anubias Nana that are in those little pots you get at the LPS/LFS. I have seen a few pictures here of people just leaving them in the pots while others take them out to anchor/plant them.

My tank is a barebottom and right now they are just in the pots.

My question is: Is this detrimental to their growth/health to leave them in the pots? I would assume that their growth would be hindered due to the lack of space in the pots but I just don't want them to die?

i would take them out then anchor them. your going to have to take them out someday any ways.

I took mine out of the pots, it looked terrible and was sticking up out of the gravel. After the plants looked less healthy I decided to take them out, and now they're thriving!

Alrighty, thanks! I'll leave them in their pots for now as they're flourishing quite well, but I'll work on getting some substrate so I can plant them in the future :)

I have anubias that is so far thriving planted in my gravel- just a FYI
