Simple fin rips or worse!? (Info included)

can you get a new one? that pic honestly looks like tail biting. which CAN end up as fin rot if you're not careful. since he's so stressed, it's possible that rot caught hold of the bites...

I know these aren't the best quality pictures. I'm sorry about that. His QT bowl is round.... which makes things hard to photograph through (especially when the camera goes "here, let me adjust that focus you"). I chose a brighter light which really lightened up his usually darker purple color. In all of the pics you can see the single gray line, though.

This was his best condition...I literally pulled him out of the shipment box and bought him. He's been the best fish I've ever had...I just got back into fish keeping too since I did it with my mom when I was younger. T.T

oh, yes. he's nibbling his fins. x: or something else is. in my personal experience, HMs always bite their tail. Dante did, Ichi did, Twitch(my DTHM) did, Cooper is.... 8I even my rosetail, Todd, nibbles his beautiful tail. >8I so, it wouldn't surprise me if your boy is. x: just keep his water clean. he might be happier with a shorter tail. Twitch and Ichi were, so i gave up on making them stop. i just keep infection away.

... well... i'm trying to stop Todd. because i love his tail.

Did I read wrong that he's with a pleco and a cichlid?

Can they reach to nibble their dorsals and anals the way that his have been? I mean....I did notice that he twists and lays in weird angles, almost wrapping himself up and then he'll just swim off. Maybe he's biting then? Nothing else can really be nibbling at his fins at this point....he had little nibbles when I bought him...and now he has more chunks missing than last night...in his QT tank....

Uhm. Not in his QT. The pleco is a bristlenose. They don't get ay larger than 4 inches MAX. And the Cichlid hasn't nipped at him. I literally stare at the tank for twenty minutes at a time. They just look and swim away. No fighting. I would've separated immediately had they nipped at each other or anything. No flaring, either.

Also, the Cichlid is a RAM. Small fish as well.

i've just always heard to keep cichlids away from other fish. -shrug-

they can. :V Twitch used to bite all four of his tails. dorsal, both tails, and anal. never let them grow back in, the little butt.

I don't know. The cichlid acts more afraid of Dovahkiin than Dovahkiin is of him.

This describes him. Anyways, Dovahkiin is acting like a happy camper today....his fins look a little more healed....

I would have blamed the cichlid if they hadn't gotten worse (bigger chunks missing) after the first night in his QT tank.
