young males can have an egg spot, too. x: have you tried shining a light on one side and looking at the other? in lighter fish, you can see ovaries in females. that way.

Yeah I just tried the light and all I accomplished was aggravating them. LOL. Don't really think I'm quite that pro yet to ID ovaries.

To me they both look like really really young males. It's by looking at their body shapes and fins (More streamlined, "sharper" facial features and the ovaries are very difficult to see on dark fish) that I'm going by :) Time will definitely tell!
