I was looking around at Petsmart and I found this..
Anyone tried it before and is it safe? My betta is having a fin/tail rot issue.

I'm using it on my sorority tank right now to treat columnaris, and it seems to be doing well.

It comes highly recommended on this site to treat all sorts of different bacterial type infections, but I'm not sure if it would help fin rot unless it was caused by bacteria.

Depends on the severity of the fin rot, I would say use the conservative approach of AQ salt first, you can find out from the Sticky in Disease section of this forum.

Mine recovered from fin rot with 5mL/g AQ salt with 100% WC for 10 days max.

How severe is the fin rot issue?

The easiest way to treat fin rot is to keep the fish in warm, clean water.

If that doesn't work, you can try Aquarium salt. (Do not use this for more than 10 days though!)

Very severe or aggressive fin rot can sometimes be caused be a gram-negative bacterial infection. For this, yes, Maracyn Plus may be effective.

Maracyn Plus contains Sulfadimidine and Trimethoprin. These target both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria:
"Sulphadimidine is highly effective against streptococcus, staphylococcus and gram-negative pathogens..." (1)
"Trimethoprim is a synthetic antibacterial drug active against a wide variety of aerobic gram-positive and gram-negative... pathogens" (2)
