I went to Petsmart today, planning on buying only a 25 watt heater for my betta, Patriot, and maybe a ghost shrimp to help keep the tank all clean and shiny. The heater he had before wasn't doing its job well enough, so I bought an adjustable one.
Well, while I was there... I wandered down the forbidden aisle. I saw the cutest little females in the aisle, and they were just the most adorable little things. They were all wiggly and excited to see me when I put my finger up to the glass.
Since I found a LFS, I've vowed to never buy another betta from Petsmart, as they just look neglected and unhealthy. At least, in ours. None of their females look healthy. :( I'd get one to save her, but I'd really rather support the LFS I found. Their employees are great and they take wonderful care of their fish. That's where I got my Pat. :)
Anyway, the little females were so tempting, I went to the tank aisle and found a 3 gallon critter keeper for $15 and 4 pounds of multi colored gravel for $3. I figured, hey. I already have a heater at home that should definitely do a good job in a smaller tank, so why not?
So, I walked out with my new heater for Patriot, two ghost shrimp, the critter keeper, and gravel. I'll be going to the LFS tomorrow to pick out a girl. :) I'm so excited. I'm going to get her a castle and a fake plant or two.
I have a question, though... How would I go about lighting this tank? It's kinda dark, and I don't want her to feel like she's living in a cave. :( Do you think a desk lamp like
this would light it up without being able to see all the lines from the grates?
