It really depends on how often they are doing it. If your boy is constantly flaring, as in he spends more time flared than not, then it can get very stressful and he might stop eating, get sick, etc. However, flaring is a great way for them to build up muscle, especially in the heavier-finned boys. In building the muscle, it makes it easier for them to swim around.

Actually it's good exercise for them. You don't want them to do it 24 hours a day, though. Lol
