Betta Browninsh/Red spots on Fins and a hole!!!

So i got a betta from a Pet Smart..he looks so miserable sitting in a cup on the back of a shelf... covered in dust..hes a bit raggedy..and he has a lil hole in the tail...iv got him now in a 2.5 gallon tank..water treated with a heater..what is the best treatment for him..Hes very swimmy, seems to be in good spirits and happy in his new warm tank..i think the spots are fin rot..and the hole is from i have no clue..esp if he spent his life in a cup...what is my next course of action!!!...

Sounds like ammonia burns. Really he looks good considering how you described him.. just clean water warm water is best now. If you add anything I would add stress coat at 1ml per 1 gallon and/or fresh water vitachem at 2 drops per gallon.

In something of this size you can get an adjustable 25w heater - must have an in tank thermometer too - and keep the tank between 78-80F. He must be acclimated to this water slowly by either increasing no more than 1 degree per hour and 5 per day or floating in preheated water for an hour before releasing.

Also two water changes a week are needed - one 50% and one 100%

ThankYOu ThankYOU THANKYOU!!!!!!!! i will get on all of that ASAP! he has a heater and hes in a VERY warm room..My bedroom..i keep it quite tropical :)....i use betta pro water..i usually warm it up by setting the bottle in warm water for a while.....i also intend on adding live plants...hes a good fish..very curious and attentive...i want to have him happy for a long time!!!..Thankyou soo much for ur response!!!

do u think it was the ammonia burns that made the hole???

Yes, I think ammonia probably caused the hole. He could also have snagged it on something though.

I think he'll be fine :)
