I just for back from a fish store: New Wave Tropical Fish in Orange CA. Everything looked good, it was a little expensive. Then I saw the bettas. You would not believe the condition they were in. One of them was thrown into a tank full of fin nippers. All of his fins were gone and he was hanging on for his life. There were around 5 in cups. There cups had clearly never been cleaned. I could tell their dead bodies have been sitting there for a few days. There was a ton of uneaten food at the bottom of their prison cells. I also saw painted fish, I think they were called Painted Glass Fish. I just can't understand how someone could let a living thing die in a cup when it would have taken maybe 10 minutes to change their water and possibly save their life! How could this be legal?

Write a formal but furious letter explaining how you will be boycotting their store in future and ensuring everyone you know will do the same. Nothing scares stores like loss of custom.

sometimes local news stations are interested in stories like this. if they hear about fish injected with dye they might use it for a slow news day. e-mail them the wiki and tell them about the store
