Betta Cage

So, long story short - got some young fish for my sorority, and lo and behold some of them ended up being male instead of all females. Which is fine, I've found homes for the lttle gender-benders =)

This last little guy is the last one needing a home, and until then I want to keep him healthy. he's been fine in the sorority due to size, but they're starting to grow.

Then I saw one of my other females show ehr first breeding stripes. So~ figured it ought to be best to separate this guy into his own little 'pen' meanwhile get the benefits of warmth and IAl and so on and so forth.

So I built this out of simple crafting mesh and 100% nylon thread and two suction cups.

I don't know the dimensions exactly but it'll hold a half-gallon of space. Since it's only temporary for the time being it'll have to do. If he starts growing, I'll set him up in a more permanent home (3g+)

Anyone know if bettas are sexually mature/active at 3.5 months?

Well I was going to just float a 1 gallon in the sorority so he'd stay warm, but then I'd have to do the water changes and stress him our and me out...I figured this way was just so much easier for us both =)

3.5 months, from what I've read, is like being sixteen to a fish, as far as sexual maturity/ hormones go. :P

Oh joy. I may have to make a lid for the dude.

But I found him a home, so he only has to 'survive' this predicament another week and a half.

Thanks ^^ He's colored in nicely with royal blue and a deep red for his fins. He has great finnage too =)

Nice, how big is the tank? Maybe add a couple plants and rocks. Make him feel comfy. Nifty build!

The cage itself is only maybe half gallon, maybe a bit more length wise. Plants and rocks would be a definite option, but since it's just his temporary home I opted not to. Even so, the separation has done him and the girls wonders, everyone's colors are coming in nicely now.
