What the HECK is this?? Is it even real??

Saw this at petco yesterday.. What the heck is it? It doesn't look like marimo.. is it even actual moss?? It's dry and packaged in a plastic container....

Its a fake moss ball that does the same thing as a filter basically.

For people who don't want to tend the real thing or have a really bad green thumb.

I ordered four of these for my 55gallon tank. They are pretty cool, i really didn't know if they were real of not when i bought them but they are fake. Its a great thing for me since i hate the real ones. They always broke up and got into my filter. These ones have i think carbon inside them and the green stuff feels like hair into you get them wet. They look real after your rinse them down. You got to put them in water and squeeze the ball to get all the air out so it doesn't float. Overall i am happy, and will by 4-5 more in the next few weeks.

Hummm I have a 60 gal planted with 21 fish, all barbs and neon rainbow fish, 2 BNPs, question for ya, mine like to get into everything. wouldn't the inside of that fake ball harm your fish?

What type of fish do you have? In the past I had cichlids and that was almost impossible to have plants in

Gross. I am NOT buying this thing whatever it is..

I'll just stick with the real stuff, The fakest thing I'll ever put in my tanks is half a flowerpot.

I think I'll go buy a real moss ball... Or 6...

Well it's a good option if you are running a non natural tank or if you have a sump. All you do is throw those bad boys in there and boom biological filtration AND phosphate nitrate absorption. "wonder if they work in SW?" I think they also sell them on Drs.F&S website...

Id rather have the real thing. Scuzz is a boss, he's the best plant i own and moss balls are so easy to care for. I never use to give it anything and it lived in low lighting for a long time without issues.
