Wink The tank I'm saving up for...

Hey guys, I just went to my LFS and got really inspired. Here's what I want to do:

20 gallon long aquarium

Fluorescent hood for 20 gallon long aquarium

Sponge filter (x2)

100 watt aquarium heater

Aquarium thermometer (x2)

Aquarium gravel

Terracotta flower pot cut in half (x4)

Hornwort (4 medium clumps)

Anubias plant (x4)

Java moss (4 small clumps)

Water sprite (4 pieces)

Marimo moss ball (x4)

Homemade divider (x3)

Quite a few ramshorn snails

All of these put together would look like this:

The drawing was my best attempt at putting what was in my head into paint. (the application)

Enjoy!!

Looks awesome! The only thing I would suggest is adding a HOB, I like aquaclear, in one of the middle sections. Sponge filters are awesome and super cheap but they don't really do much for the debris.

Hmm, I think your are going to have a bit of a hot spot if you use the sponge filters. They are great for Betta's but they dont move the water across the tank. My guess is the partitions to the far right and left are going to be a quite bit cooler. I would go with two 50 watts and put them in the 2 end partition but closer to the center for equal spacing.

@surferjo: Sounds good.

@ eemmais: Do I need multiple HOBs? perhaps one on each end, baffled with a filter sponge & another sponge around the intake? I do happen to have a few spare HOBs made for 10 gallon aquariums...

Yeah, I think maybe 1 on each end would be best. But again this is just my opinion...a lot of people will say that only sponge filters are fine; IMO they are awesome for BB but not so great at mechanical filtration. I'd say if you have spare ones you might as well use them. No such thing as too much filtration!! :)

Fantastic, and an amazing job on the illustration! I looooove long tanks, and plants, and bettas. So this definitely looks great to me.

I would second thinking about your water movement, both for temperature and filtration.

I like the long tanks also. Here is a pic of my custom tank. Each partition has a little over 1.6g. Your fish will be getting a lot more space than mine have.
