Imposter!

*sigh* Right . . .

Okay so, I've been watching Nessa for the past few days and it's just become clearer and clearer to me that "she" is in fact, a "he". Not that it matters but he's A)flared constantly B) No egginess in belly, fake ovi and C) BUBBLENESTS!

So I'm just putting my feelers out there to see if you agree. I've got pics of the little guy - gathering evidence, so to speak ^__^

Friday night I came home to a little surprise . . . .

So I decided to try a mirror and got this . . . .

I don't know. She looks either very eggy or very fat to me. But the bubble nest?

How do you know there's no egginess in the belly? XD
That's a really close call, he or she is a really good impostor!

Okay, definitely 100% male. I placed him beside one of my other males, and an epic flarathon ensued. They're still at it an hour later :)

Belly eggs ... usually a girl is more rotund than a guy, and you can see their ovaries through their skin. I haven't seen this with Nessa.

Yep, it looks like you have yourself a plakat male, and a handsome one at that.

I guess he was so confusing because I'd bought him as a female, and sort of assumed he was because of his size and really short fins. I'm off to search for a more manly name right now ^_^

i've had females that flared at males and bubblenested. my newest female surprised me with a bubblenest this morning. i've even had a female that built a bubblenest and put her eggs in it. :I she tended to it for a few days.

your betta's ventrals are stubby. that often screams 'female' to me. :V

I think your betta is a female. I thought my female was a male. She's still a she. She blows bubblenests, hates other bettas, and she flares constantly. Plus, she's a plakat and I see no ovipostor ever. Unless ... What if she IS a male?! *dun fun dunnnn* xD

Plus, this was when I first got her. (I'm not trying to hijack the thread, I'm just showing examples)
