My female is large for her size - I bought her as a dragon scale male, however, it turns out she's a veiltail female. That being said, she makes lots of random bubble nests when she is eggy (she's very eggy right now and making tons of nests), but as soon as she loses the egginess, bye, bye bubble nests. She also flares quite often, but her beard is no where near as big as my male's beard. The one time she and my male saw each other, it was very apparent that she is MUCH more aggressive than he is and would probably eat him for breakfast if they ever wound up in the same tank together.
My male on the other hand, hardly ever flares, in fact the only time I ever saw him flare is when he saw my female for a short period of time. He runs and hides from his reflection, or occasionally plays dead, and he only builds bubble nests if there is a storm coming. The bigger the nest, the bigger the storm.
Is your female still a dragon scale? It's unsual to see a dragons scale veiltail (especially a female) in the US. That's interesting about the storm and bubblenests.
I think your betta is a female. I thought my female was a male. She's still a she. She blows bubblenests, hates other bettas, and she flares constantly. Plus, she's a plakat and I see no ovipostor ever. Unless ... What if she IS a male?! *dun fun dunnnn* xD

yours is DEFINITELY a male plakat. couldn't be more male if he was dipping snuff and chopping down oak trees while reading a porno mag.
Great explanation, but bad mental image. xD still, I've asked around and everyone is confused, so am I. Course ... I say something and my boyfriend is just like "Owl is a FEMALE!" *eeps* xD I'm just gonna ask on this forum too, I guess.
You know what, after looking and comparing and researching ... I think Nessa really is a female. I feel so derpy right now, lol. I've just come home with two definite male PKs and comparing them side by side with Nessa it's obvious that she's a she.
That's my Beej ... I gave him to a friend not too long ago. I miss him like heck but he's doing so well now. He's got a 10 gallon to himself and apparently he's gone all blue. I wish I could get current pics of him.
