Alpha Had an Accident

Advise, please! Had accident while doing water change. Long veil tail male fell into sink and landed on metal drain catch. Ripped off a very tiny portion of the top back fin ?caudal? at the body level. He bled slightly; that has now stopped. He is still slowly swimming around the tank; he has his own tank. Is there a chance he will survive? Shall I feed him as usual tonight, or let him rest a bit? Thanks in advance. I feel so bad I let this happen.

He'll probably be okay but it will be imperative to keep his water very very clean while he is healing.

Also stress coat at 1 ml per 1 g and/or vitachem at 2 drops per gallon will help speed up the process.

I bet he'll be fine, fin tears heal very fast as long as the water is clean and warm.

What size tank do you keep him in? What temperature do you keep him at?

He's probably just in a little bit of shock right now. I'd go ahead and offer him a couple pellets and see if he eats. If not then remove and try again tomorrow.

He's in a five gal. 1/2 circle tank and drop thermometer is at 74F. Is that a good setting? It had always been at that setting for Alpha 1; this is Alpha II. He's still moving around at his normal rate of swimming, resting at bottom, periodically going up to top for air, etc. I did give him one betta pellet and he consumed that one. Will now give a second. Thanks.

How many gallons is it?

76 is minimum of 78-80 is ideal.

Bump up the temperature to 78-80 degrees.
