so i have a fish named popcorn and i thing he is geting stressed a lot when i change his tank when i cleaned his tank to day i put him in his cup and he was doing fine just that little black thing under his gills was going in and out when i was done cleaning his tank i put him in his net and put it in the tank the he lade at the bottom of the tank like he was dead and his head was going up and down he has ben going in side his plant and sleeping for a long time. i think i may have over fed him so thats why his tummy is a bit big i didnt feed him for a day and he wont flare at anything anymore he has a little bit of fin rot too his fins arnt out any more they are close to gater

i feed popcorn betta pellets that came in a thing shaped like a fish when i got popcorn i fed him nutrafin max (it came with the betta cube i got for him ) then i fed him nutrafin basix blood worms this is the cube i bought for him when i got him : same one

its probably because of water quality.

a .5 is wayyy too small as a permanent home, but you should be doing daily 100% water changes in that.

For now:: Do daily water changes and get a heater ASAP.
Get him a bigger tank (minimum 2.5 gallons) and a heater with a glass thermometer asap and see if that helps.

If you overfed him and it's swim bladder disease you could try unscented Epsom salt. Stop feeding him for at least 48-72 hours (you may have to go long ask here when you get to that point). They sell epsom salt at a drugstore (CVS if you have one in your area is good). Your fish needs a much bigger tank. I will email you about that later since you have an emergency. I was told to do 1 teaspoon per gallon your tank isn't even a gallon so maybe a half a teaspoon. I have fish with swim bladder disease he is slowly getting better. I am newer betta owner but since no one has answered your post. If your fish is having trouble getting to the top of the water lower the water level so he can get air easily. Stick with Epsom salt for relieving swim bladder disease I have read suggestions of giving skinned frozen peas but I have also read this tears up the betta's digestive system so don't do that.

When you do the epsom salt have another container ready filled with water he is used (maybe the water you bale to lower the water level) in case he looks distressed from it you can take him out. I only treated my fish for 15 minutes but people on the forum have told me to leave the fish in there all day. Your tank is so small I am leary about you doing that.

These are symptoms of swim bladder:
The betta is unable to swim properly, characterized by floating at the top, sinking to the bottom and/or listing sideways. The betta often looks like it takes it a great deal of work to swim to the bottom (if floating) or reach the surface (if sinking), and will pop back up like a cork or sink like a stone.
A constipated fish may look bloated (slightly or greatly), or seem to have difficulty passing feces (stringy, trailing, or exceptionally large poop). I hope more people will post.

he should be fine until you can get him a bigger tank. looks like he just has some minor fin rot. keep up what you're doing, and do daily or every other day water changes until you can get him a tank of at least 2 gallons and a small heater. :3
