when you cycle?

Ok when you cycle a tank right now i am cycleing a 5g tank it has been going for 4 days now and it is very cloudy i have a filter going but it is still cloudy it also looks like there is stuff growing in it. It that what it is subose to do? Also when do i know it is ready

Cloudy water does happen when you cycle sometimes. I also had some wierd "growth" but just left it alone and it went away. You will know it's ready when you have 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and less then 20ppm nitrates. It is recomended that you check these with a liquid test kit, not the strips.

You won't get the nitrates until your ammonia and nitrites spike. The cycling process can take anywhere from 2-8 weeks. Have you put anything in the water to produce ammonia?

yes food and water form some old tanks and rocks in nielon form my moms tank to make it go fater

that i know but i didnt know that it would get all cloudy and things would grow but hey you learn something new every day right......lol i think next time befor i start something new dont listen to the people in the pet stores

I'd say wait several more days and for the cloudiness to disappear at the very least.

By the way, a test kit will give you precise measurements about your water. These will decide whether the tank is ready for stocking . . .

. . . if you haven't put anything in there yet.
