Strange Spot

so i got up this morning and this strange spot had appeared overnight on my betta, i just did a 25% water change and he is acting normal for the most part. just wanted to see if this was some kind of sickness i needed to hit before it got any worse

there was also a white fuzzy mold like substance on the submersible heater that i cleaned off. im going to check the water parameters tomorrow when my better testing kit comes in

I would keep a super close eye on it. It could possibly grow rapidly and turn out to be columnaris. I've seen it happen like that a few times. Columnaris can be treated with a few things, but it needs to be treated quickly.

If it is columnaris or fungus, the spot will turn fuzzy and spread. Columnaris can spread and kill rapidly or it can spread a little more slowly, so in certain cases, its already too late if you don't have meds on hand.

It isn't marbling, but it is possible that maybe it will go away on its own? In any case, if just watch the spot and his behavior like a hawk.

Can you shine a flashlight on him and see if he looks like he's covered in salt? Does he ever look like he is "scratching" or darting against decor?

Sounds like ick. Please fill out the link. Ick is a sign of fish stress, usually due to poor water conditions.

This is treated by increasing tank temp, slowly at no more than a degree per hour and 5 degrees per day, and you should stop try again later if he shows signs of stress. Get the temp to between 86-88F and keep it there at least 2 weeks and a week past the last sign of ick. Adding aquarium salt at 1 tsp per gallon predissolved (only replace as much salt as water you change) for up to 10 days

boosting his immune system during this time by soaking his food in fresh water vitachem or crushed organic fresh garlic will also help.
