Replacing 2.5 gal w/ 5.0

Cycling 2.5 is impossible after a couple of months - varies all over the lot. I guess that agrees with all of the advice here on the forum. I also just realized that the location is in line with a heat vent across the room (about 10 to 12 ft.). I want to relocate to a spot under an east facing window. I usually don't open the blinds until the sun has moved from directly falling through the window. Do you guys think that is wise?

I'm going to pick up a 5.0 gal at Petco tomorrow. I have a AZOO Mignon filter and a 25W Hydor heater that will transfer over to the new tank. The temp has remained constant for the whole time. The current water data, ammonia - 2.0, Nitrite - 0, Nitrate - >20<40, temp - 79. Is that a sensible plan for one betta that I don't have yet. It will probably be a Petco/Petsmart HM variety

Windows are also not good. It needs to be on an interior wall, away from exterior doors, windows and vents.

I would bump the temp to at least 80 while cycling - mid 80s might help too. Do you know the ph of your water?

What version of the filter do you have? The 60 is not enough for a 5g.

Unfortunately, I'm in a small apartment which is 1/2 size (1500 sq ft to 600 sq ft) from my previous home. That means I don't have room on any wall for anything other than what's there. The reasons for keeping the other possessions are many and personal, their all that remains from 59 years of my wife and I. I lost her in 2009 to Metastatic breast cancer, getting rid of what's left is kinda wrenching. The things that are left have pictures of my grandchildren and momentoes (spell) of our life which is important to this 82 year old geezer.

I have another one (AZOO Mignon) that has never been used that can br use.
