Is duct tape safe to use in an aquarium?

...ok. Well, is there an AQ safe tape you'd recommend? It's kind of involved, but long story short, my divider's not going to cut it for baby bettas and I'd like a temporary fix until they are big enough to where they won't swim through cracks.

Aquarium silicone. Are you talking about on the edges? In the middle? Can you double up the mesh? Where are the cracks & how big? Can you post a pic?

No. Duct tape won't hold up in water. It disintegrates when wet.... Use aquarium safe silicone. I use Loctite brand, which I got at Lowes for about $4.50. One tube will last a really long time. After applying, let it dry for at least 24 hrs. It's also available at petsmart, but costs more there.

Also, here are two threads about creating DIY dividers. They may be helpful if you want to create something:

How viscose is the loctite? It's really about the edges of the divider not meeting the convex AQ front.

I use that black electric tape in my aquarium-I had to tape a rock to some driftwood that wouldn't sink-I did have to replace or re-tape it after about a year more or less-and it has never caused any problems for the livestock.
I have never used duct tape in my tanks-but I have used it on the outside to attach Qt's for one reason or the other...That said-aquarium safe silicone would most likely work and look better for your project.
