Oh thankyou, now I love all of my bettas equally but the second guy that you said you like has to be my favourite colour, I was practically jumping for joy when I found him at the pet shop.....still haven't found a name that suits him though........he's just so......perfect (well I think so anyway lol)

Oh gosh that sounds horrible! I don't understand why companies don't the idea that if they keep their fish looking happy more people would be willing to buy them and it would be cheaper for them in the long run since they wouldn't have to throw away unwanted "inventory".

Oh yes I totally agree, trouble is it would not surprise me if they ring up their suppliers and just say that the fish arrived dead and then get credit on it............ they must be getting rein-burst some how as I can't imagine them just throwing dead fish and therefore money down the drain If I had a pet shop I would use barrack tanks fully heated and filtered and cleaned regularly and educate people about proper betta care. The only small betta tanks I would sell would be labelled quarantine tanks and it be clearly stated that they were not long term homes for bettas. I would also hand out pamphlets on facts and myths of betta care explaining everything in full so that there is no room for misconception.

Do you mean my blue and black boy? he is actually a pastel violet sort of colour, he has a really tiny tail for a HM but I could not resist his colouring. I only got him 4 days ago.

Most definitely! I know there are a lot of people out there that would love to get into the betta fish hobby but they are afraid because they have been given miss information or they used to have one and the information given was wrong the fish didn't last long. I run into this problem all the time, when people see all 11 of mine and wonder how I have been able to keep them for so long. I have noticed that if you educate people on the proper way to keep these fish, a lot of people seem less likely to buy them.

Yes I think that such a 'convenient fish' draws them in but once they realise that they actually do require a certain amount of care they can't be bothered, the appeal of them lessens........for some at least
