New Betta Fish and Bowl

Hey guys,

I just got a new betta fish and bowl. But the top of the bowl gets filmy and looks almost thick with film and tiny bubbles and I'm wondering what this is from. I have sand, stones, rocks to make a cave and some live grass in there. He seems fine, although his temperature of water is not high enough like between 75-80, his is 68-70 usually and I feel really bad about that. But I'm wondering what this film could be from? Any ideas?:(

Did you rinse all of the decorations? I take it it is the sand.

i thought it might be the sand.. but yes i did rinse everything, even the sand. There are also little bubbles.. would that be a bubble nest? they are around the rim mostly.. if so, is it bad if I have suctioned the bubbles away before? Should I keep them there?

Um..pictures would be great, but if its a bubblenest then you can sunction them away but they do no harm whatsoever to your betta

the film could also be caused by leftover food, and other organic wastes in your tank. a bubbler will help break the surface tension in your case. be sure to set it on low as bettas are not fond of torrent-like currents.

When I had a betta I always had the same thing. I always thought it was a bubble nest. It doesn't hurt anything and my water params never changed. Wipe it away if you want or just leave it be, whatever your comfortable with.

Here's what it looks like after only a couple days. I'm trying to plastic wrap now. I just cleaned it again tonight.

Ewwww...that's pretty gross looking. I'd guess it's leftover stuff.

You should really get a bigger tank for him when you can afford it...bowls are just too small, no matter what the guy at the petstore told you. Sucky thing is that you just end up going back and giving more of your money to them.

I would say that is from leftover food. Please fix it immediately, it may make it harder for the betta to gulp in air from the surface, not to mention make him sick. Try putting a paper towel on the surface for it to absorb some of the muck and then remove it afterwards
