Thanks guys! He is such a dark shade of red I often have trouble seeing in the tank from a distance! His tank came with a black background so that HAS I change :p I just got home from work and his first full day in his tank seems to have gone very well! He's still cruising around happily.
I can't stop talking about him! LOL.

As for the leaf hammock, is there an issue with the wire in them?!
Could someone please fill me in?

Thanks! :)

Some of these hammocks contain a metal piece in the stem to keep it stable enough to hold a resting betta. And the plastic around the metal is cheap, flimsy and can wear away pretty quick which exposes the metal which leaks into the water harming the fish. I have not had a problem though personally.

You can check for a wire by bending it a bit under a light. If yours has a metal stem you can carefully cut it out or leave it and just check the plastic every time you do a water change. Mine has been carried around by the cat, kicked along the floor and rinsed under scalding hot water but I don't even think mine has metal now.

eta- yes it does, its very visible from the back of the suction cup.
