New arrival!

My daughter's salamander butterfly just came in. He's currently floating in his shipping bag in a 1/2 gallon or so vase here at my office. As soon as I get him acclimated and let him out of his teabag, I'll take a picture.

He's an EE and missing his left pectoral (mostly) from an injury. Should grow back. Looks like he tore up his tail pretty good in shipping, too, but he'll grow that back too I'm sure!

He'll be excited to get into his new tank tonight, and I know she's really excited for him to be here too. I even had some live plants arrive today also, so I'll float them in the temporary vase with him until tonight.

You can see that his left pectoral is damaged in this one:

Other shots ... he's not letting me get much:

He's perking up a little with the IAL and the plants floating, though. Waiting for him to flare a bit more so I can check his fins a little better.

Nope ... he's for my daughter and she hasn't seen him yet. I had him shipped to my office so I could get him out of the bag faster.

He's starting to perk up, and he was snapping at some floaters that came in with the plants, so I fed him a couple of pellets, and he happily snatched them. Came through shipping like a champ!

She has named him Jake.

This is Jake's new digs:

The castle and the princess were a compromise ... the lid of the tank and the rocks glow in the dark .... but it's for my five year old, and Hannah loves her fish!

Plants:

Marselia Minutia
Dwarf Sag
A little bit of java moss
and some Bacopa australis (both planted and floating)
There are also some random floater hitchhikers.

Jake checking out his new home:

And this, my friends, is why you need live plants. Who needs a betta hammock?!?!

haha my girls love to rest in floaters like that too! He's a cutie!

I feel bad for jake in that tank!! LOL but your right, its for a 5 year old girl, what better than pink and princesses!

his fins and pectorals dont look bad at all to me. A piece missing here and there, but you should have seen how my latest HM arrived. He bit his tail practically to his body, and now he's got terrible fin rot from it sadly.

His tail is actually not bad at all. His left pectoral is just about gone, but I knew that before the breeder sent him to me ... it's just an injury and not a deformity. You can already see where it's growing back in.
