Do you add aquarium salt at water changes?

I bought aquarium salt to have on hand for illness. The package says to add some with water change for healthier fish. If you have do you feel your fish have stayed healthier? Have you noticed deterioration of your plants live or fake? What about aquarium moss? I have seen posts about fake plants rusting and I could see salt causing materials to degrade.

No. If you use salt all the time, when you need to use it as a treatment the betta will have built up a tolerance and it won't be as effective. Also, there is no proven benefit for totally freshwater fish having salt added.

So no, I wouldn't use it. :)

Also, if you have any ornaments with potential for rusting, take them out. You don't want metal in there.

Salt can actually lead to liver or kidney failure in bettas. I would skip it all together.
AQ salt helps heighten immunities because it helps the fish produce a slime coat. But the way it helps with slime coat is by irritating the fish's skin so that it's slime coat production goes into overdrive.
The way I think about it is, if I have a dry eye, I'm not going to squeeze a lemon in it to make it water, I'm going to get eyedrops. (AQ salt beig lemon juice)

No. AQ salt should only be used as a treatment for outer infections (like fin rot). It should not be used for more than a 10 day period for reasons mentioned above.

As they've said, its good for treating ill fish. I like to keep some on hand because its really useful when fighting bacterial infection and fin rot, but is not healthy for your fish to use it all the time.
