Red face When can I take my old filter out?

I put my sponge filter in 3 days ago and have my established filter still running in the tank. I am way more anxious to take the old filter out than I thought I would be! So when could I take it out?! I was going to leave it in for a month but now I really don't want to!

It needs to be in there for several weeks. Bacteria needs a chance to colonize on the new sponges.

I think 2 weeks should be fine as long as the other filter is still in there.

I would do a whole month if it were me ... if you take it out early, test your water frequently.

Okay. Maybe I will just leave it for the month. That's what I was gonna do anyway...plus that gives me more time to make money for a new top, since I have a pretty big chunk cut out for the HOB. Now I will only need a little hole for the air tube. I don't want my betta jumping out!
