Hi from the Cold North!

I found this site when researching the Betta. I've decided I want to get one for my daughter (10 months, but she'll enjoy it) and really needed to read up on them because I couldn't imagine keeping them in that itty bitty bowl! We don't keep cats and dogs contained in such small areas, how is it nice to coop them up? We haven't made any purchases yet, I need to do a lot more reading on here so I can do this right the first time! I definitely have a few questions, but I will try to find the answers around the site first! I know people hate repeating themselves when the answers are already out there, but if anyone can direct me to a thread of acronym meanings that'd be great!

I've decided to to a 10G, soil bottom, live plant set up. It seems snails are pretty vital, but I'm hoping to get away with 1 non asexual snail (assassin?) and some ghost shrimps and possibly an angel fish down the road to keep the betta company!

Anyways, hi from Canada!

you could try trumpet snails, theyre good for soil tanks but tend to reproduce a lot and may become a pain. an apple snail could be a good choice too if you only get one or two, they will rarely reproduce, but if they do they need to lay eggs outside of the water at the op of the tank and you could just scoop them away. ghost shrimp are good, they will eat any decaying plants.

what type of betta are you getting?

oh and welcome to the forum.

Where in Canada are you? And your plan sounds good, but angels are not the best tankmates and a ten is too small for one.

As an angelfish keeper and breeder I can tell you 10 is way too small for them.

Hi fellow Albertans! I don't know how to send a friend request, but if you send me one I'll accept it! Nice to have some people around. :)
