Plants without dirt?

I just purchased my first betta and I really want to put a couple of plants in the tank.
I bought 3 seeds that came together in a little package at petco. I think the name of them is aponogeton. My question is if these seeds/bulbs will grow in a tank without dirt, but just rocks instead.

Yes. Those bulbs frequently have problems sprouting, but there is a trick.

Put them (dry) into a paper bag and put them in a warm place ... I use the top of my cable box. Leave them there for 3-4 days. After 3-4 days, drop them into the tank and just let them float around. When you see a sprout, push the OTHER end of the bulb into the gravel. Do not cover the bulb.

Putting the dry bulb in a warm place "wakes it." Burying it completely will make it rot.

See if they sprout, or let them dry and then warm them up. Sometimes they sprout.

Most brands are "guaranteed" to sprout ... if yours carry the guarantee and don't sprout, you can take the time to call them and they'll usually send you some already sprouted. I think most people don't even bother to enforce the guarantee on the company, lol.

Just be sure if you're going to let them sprout in the tank right now that you don't have them buried, and see what happens.
