Mystery Snail = Tank Quality Monitor

Howdy All,

I came home today only to find my mystery snail floating in my Betta's tank. Well a quick Google search and I found out that the snail floats when the water quality is bad. Needless to say, I knew it was roughly two weeks since I had setup the tank and was going to change it this week (either today or tomorrow). I never knew the snails would be so accurate in regards to water quality time frames

So I did a 50% water change and both the Betta and snail are happy, and the tank looks amazing. I never thought having a snail would be so helpful in tank maintenance

I always start tanks with prolific snails. when the snails do well I know it's safe to stock ^___^

Interesting. I was under the impression that apple snails (aka mystery snails) float for no particular reason, aside from it being normal behavior. Where did you find you information? I'd like to read up on it.
